If you’re not using social media in your marketing strategy, where have you been?! Social media has recently been named as the number one online activity (sorry Porn world but it’s true!) so marketers have harnessed this opportunity to boost their employee brand and boost business. If you’re a small business then chances are you may not have the budget to stretch to huge campaigns and paid social media marketing so we have rounded up some excellent ways to build your employee brand through social media for free!
With 1.23 billion monthly active users (including 757 million DAILY users) it’s fair to say the audience is out there. The first step is to create a business page. Make sure all of your information is correct (address, phone number, opening times, company profile etc.) and provide as much information as possible. You need to include your company logo as your profile picture and add your branding / imagery as a cover picture as well. The trick is to update your page daily, and keep it interesting so include images, links to articles / blogs and videos where you can. Facebook have certain algorithms that can prevent your posts popping up in some news feeds, posts including images have a better chance of getting through these! Make sure to invite people to like your page and encourage likes and shares to help grow your fan base!
Twitter is probably the best platform to build an audience from as a small business as it’s less of a fuss to follow someone than to add them on Facebook and people tend to follow suggested users more often than on other platforms. That being said you need to post regularly as it’s easy for your posts to get buried in people’s news feeds! Make sure to set up your account and personalise it with your branding as well as choose a Twitter handle that lets people know who you are! Try and include images / videos / links in your tweets as they have a higher chance of engagement, and make sure you use hashtags too! If your business is local to an area, engage with local accounts (e.g. @Chestertweetsuk) as they can retweet you to a wider following and help spread the word quicker!
Now you may have read a few articles recently writing off Google+, partly due to the separation of YouTube from Google+ and the introduction of Alphabet, but Google+ is far from dead. There are 2.2 billion users on Google+, and the fact that only a low number of people post content on here means you still have an audience, but less people to compete against! Not just that, your Google+ posts directly affects the SEO to your website! So essentially you can post your way to search engine optimisation!
As recruiters this one is extremely important to us. It’s social media – but professional! No baby pictures or rants about people having the flu, just job listings and industry relevant articles. This is a fantastic networking tool if you are a b2b and even better if you are looking to recruit as you can see people’s employment history and skills in one place!
There are other platforms like Pinterest, Instagram, Snapchat, Periscope – I mean the list really does go on! Make sure you select platforms which are relevant to your industry and make sure you are posting regularly and are poised to respond to any engagement! You can download the apps to your phone and easily keep up to date with this!
