Having a great recruiter, agency or internal hiring function can make or break your business. Not only should recruiters focus on your needs as a manager or company, but they should also treat their consultants and those seeking employment with respect and care. Sadly, this is not always the case.
How hard can it be to recruit?
Recruiting isn’t just about shuffling resumes into the hands of companies. This point is to thoughtfully listen to the needs of the company, intelligently vet resumes, and then piece things together from there. If you are getting way too many resumes, or the wrong kind of resumes, your recruiter simply is not doing their job.
Why would a recruiter not focus on my needs?
Recruiters aren’t always your friend. Sometimes they can do things that would even hurt your business, such as turning to your current employees and try to recruit them elsewhere. Dirty as this sounds, it happens.
What’s in it for bad recruiters?
Some recruiters just want to make money and get the job done. This is the worst kind of recruiter. If the bottom line is profit and not people, then this kind of recruiter is not for you. This type of recruiter not only does a disservice to your company, but to those seeking employment as well and might actually be a good fit, if you ever saw their resume.
Take some time to know your needs and then vet your recruiter. Make sure they are listening to you and proving it with results. If your recruiter is doing their job well, you will be able to in turn run your company more efficiently.
